All Saints’ Festival of Angels 2018

Following the popularity of last year’s Christmas angel display, All Saints will be decorated again from 30 November (the day of the Town Council’s Fair and Christmas light switch-on) through to January. The large papier maché angels, the little ceramic angels hanging on the chancel screen, the large group of knitted angels, the ‘angel photo opportunity’ wings and the decorated lanterns will be displayed again this year but we want to expand the display and add new items from groups and individuals within the community.

We very much hope that you would like to be involved so that this can be a great community display for the Christmas season. It would be lovely if we had an angel (or group of angels) from every group in Winterton!

Ideally we would like

  • angels which could stand on window sills or cupboard tops
  • small angels which could be added to the display of ceramic angels hanging from the chancel arch
  • angels which could hang from wires suspended between the pillars

We would also welcome new ideas and imaginative designs! But please bear in mind that we have very limited available floor space because there will be several occasions in December when the church will be full.

Friday 19 October: Harvest Supper: Three course supper by Ian Cawsey with entertainment. 7.30pm. Tables of 8. £15 ticket. Bring own wine and glasses.  Last year this supper was superb and again this promises to be an event just too good to miss! Ian Cawsey has kindly offered to cook a three-course harvest supper as a fund-raising event at All Saints. The proceeds from this supper will be for All Saints funds.

The courses will be harvest-themed.

Starter: Vegetable Soup and bread roll
Main: Fidget Pie with seasonal vegetables
Pudding: Autumn fruit salad and cream
Vegetarian/Vegan option available if ordered when booking tickets.

Tickets £15 each. Bring your own drinks and glasses.

Quiz and musical entertainment. Seating at tables for 8.

Fidget Pie is a traditional harvest meal. Fidget (Fitchet or Figet) pie has variants called Shropshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdon fidget pie but its origins may date back to Anglo-Saxon times. Fidget pie is a traditional farmer’s pie which was most often made for the harvest workers. Its main ingredients are pork, onion, apple and potato. It seems to be regarded as the Midlands equivalent of the Cornish Pasty as a meal for working men.

An evening of scandalous headlines and marvelous melodies. Critically-acclaimed Toronto performer Rebecca Perry takes to the stage to look at the lives of the ladies who broke convention and started something bigger, perhaps, than even they knew. With this affecting show, Perry shows that she not only creates her own marvellous characters, but beautifully inhabits those characters – perhaps even larger still than her own – that inspire her.
